Don't Text and Drive Awareness Day
Sunday, September 12th, 2010
In memory of Jacob Hefter, who tragically lost his life in the September 12th 2008 Metrolink crash in Chatsworth California, the Jacob Hefter Foundation in conjunction with the cities of Palmdale and Lancaster are proclaiming September 12th as "Don't text and drive" awareness Day. Every year thousands of people die because of careless and selfish decisions that are made to text while driving. Drivers need to put down the phone and focus on driving: otherwise it may cost you your life or, the life of your loved ones. Please make a positive  choice by joining the Jacob Hefter Foundation on September 12th on making this one day a little safer for you and your loved ones, your neighbors and even the stranger in the car next to you.
Dine at Chili's in Lancaster and Palmdale on September 12th and a portion of your bill will go towards the foundation. You must present this flyer(click to print)-->View Document
The 10th Annual Green Valley Art Walk

The 10th Annual Green Valley Art Walk will be Saturday, September 11th and Sunday, September 12th from 10AM-10PM both days at Infinity Arts Studio by Jay Ryatt off of Spunky Canyon Road. Come and enjoy beautiful and unique art, food, wine tasting from local vineyards, music, and raffles. There will also be a silent auction with a portion of the proceeds going to local firefighters and the Fire Safe Council. This event is free to the public!

Children’s Center Presents 2nd annual "Leather & Lace" Fashion Show, chili cook-off & poker tournament

The Children’s Center of the Antelope Valley and Antelope Valley Harley Davidson present their 2nd annual fundraiser, “Leather & Lace”, benefiting The Children’s Center of the Antelope Valley.  The ‘roaring’ event will take place on Friday, September 17th from 5:30 – 10:00 PM at Antelope Valley Harley Davidson, located at 1759 West Avenue J-12 in Lancaster.  
The evening features a fierce Chili for Children Cook-off competition, as well as a "Kards 4 Kids" Poker Tournament.   Entry fee is $25 for the Poker Tournament and $25 to enter a team in the Chili Cookoff. Chili chefs are to bring their chili prepared and ready to serve.  Cash prizes and a trophy will be awarded for the Chili Cookoff and prizes donated by Kiwanis will be awarded to the winners of the Poker Tournament.  Entry forms for both the Chili Cook-off and Poker Tournament are available now and are available in the Children’s Center of the Antelope Valley lobby or at their website located at www.childrenscenter.av.org.

Antelope Valley Indian Museum SHP to Reopen
Antelope Valley Indian Museum will reopen to the public on September 18, 2010. The museum” will be open on weekends fro” 11:00AM to 4:00 PM. Admission is $3 for adults. Children age 12 and under are free.
The museum is reopening after completion of a $2 million, 4-year project to Install a geothermal heating and cooling system in the museum and stabilize the historic building.
 There are exhibits, hands-on actIvities, a gift shop, and a nature trail.
The museum, is located at 15701 East Avenue NI, in Lake Los Angeles, east of Lancaster, California.
